I searched alot on the internet and also consulted different doctors. I found out as it was discussed in some vitiligo forums that coffee and chicken can progress vitiligo so we should prohibit eating them as much as we can. But doctors said itsnot a food related disease . So if anybodie knows regarding this stuff plez convey your thoughts . I just want to know what kinda foods can progress vitiligo and what kinda foods are helpful to get repigmentation.
It would be really informative and benefical for all of Us.

Thanks Alot

Hi Bassam,

I've wondered about the food-Vitiligo connection also. I found one fellow, Dr. Ben Kim, who claims that fasting stopped progression of his Vitiligo. I've written to him and he was nice enough to respond in a prompt manner. Here's his web page: http://drbenkim.com/staff.html
The only connection I can make between food and Vitiligo is this. It seems that certain Anti-inflammatory medication (such as Elidel which I use) helps halt and repigment affected areas. Perhaps eating food that limits an anti-inflammatory response would help? i'm sure you can find that on the web.
The other point i'd make is this: my vitiligo corresponded with my liver functions going crazy. I was diagnosed with "fatty liver". This was caused by eating a lot of junk food, processed foods, fats, etc. The correlation between what I eat, mental stress, and depigmentaion seems to be strong in my case. I can literally point to periods of high stress (down to the day), bad eating due to stress (apparently I use food as a stress reliever) and the appearance of Vitiligo.
My overall advice: check your liver functions, switch to a vegetarian diet for a while, and consume a lot of antioxidents (blueberries, broccoli, etc in addition to vitamins). My experience has been that solutions are highly individualized if it exists.
Kace

.S. It peeves me when Dr's say it isn't a food related disease and then in the next sentence tell you they have no idea what causes it. While food may not be the primary cause, can it be a contributing factor? You won't know till you try. Since we don't know the actual source of the disease, we have to rely on anecdotel evidence then experiment on ourselves to see if it works

What you said was that people that have bad diets normally have vitiligo, and that's not true. Nor is it true that vitiligo is a fungus that feeds on sugar. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that is often genetically based. You probably have vitiligo because you inherited the tendency from your mother, not because you ate sugar and carbs.

I'm glad that you feel healthier when you eat well, but there are many other people here that also eat well and still have vitiligo. There are also many, many people that don't eat well and/or have a sweet tooth that do not have vitiligo.
Cindy

.S. My point was not that people with vit are obese, but that if it were true that bad diets caused vit it would affect much more of the population than it does. There is much talk these days about an "epidemic" of obesity due to poor diets and not enough exercise. If your point were true, they would be talking about an "epidemic" of vitiligo as well.

just over a year ago i too started seeing someone in beverly hills and she had me go completly natural and carb free. i was tring to heal up gut issues as well as this vit. after about six months with no meat, dairy, sugar(natural or processed), certain kinds of nuts, and no caffine, and drank nothing but water, i did indeed feel soooooo much better. in fact better than i ever even felt a a kid! i lost weight, my skin got smooth and soft, woke up in the mornings feeling refreshed (even though i sleep about 3 1/2-5 hours a night) my mood lifted and my stomach problem vanished. i was a new person, for real. but my discouragement came from the fact that that my vit spread faster than it ever had in the 15 years i have had it.
i am a firm believer that our diets and the polluted world we are living in is a huge factor to all the ailments that people seem to have. i dont recall people feeling so crappy all the time back in the day. i could be wrong though. my point is that diet alone didnt do a thing for my vit. i would hate to say that the strict diet made it worse but for me i saw far from a difference. i am currently trying to get back on that kinda diet just because it feels so good to be clean on the inside.
